August 29, 2008 Dear Parents, Another week has flown by. We are still reveling in our team gold medal at last week’s Olympics. After the typing and printing of last week’s letter, our class won a team gold medal in a basketball shoot-out. Next week we will be working on the following topics: READING: Phonemes, nouns, rhymes, syllables, positional words MATH: Sorting by size and shape RELIGION: Showing God’s love LANGUAGE ARTS/PHONICS: Letter Ll, initial consonant review SOCIAL STUDIES: Problems/Solutions, groups in a community IMPORTANT NEWS AND INFORMATION: 1. School will not be in session on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day. 2. We will attend Mass on Friday, September 5. No shorts or jeans please. 3. We lost a student to a family move and gained a new Kindergarten friend. Erica and family moved to Indiana. We welcomed Isabelle Bruett and family to Holy Family Kindergarten. We are glad to have Isabelle in our class. 4. WE DID IT!!!! We had 100% of our Race For Education labels turned in by Monday. Thank you for your extra efforts. The children elected to have an ice cream party, which will be forthcoming. 5. August Faith Witness forms need to be signed and returned next week. Remember, these count as a grade in your child’s Religion class (10 points if signed and returned, 0 points if not returned). A new form for September will be sent home on Tuesday, September 2. A complete description of the Faith Witness project is in the orange Kindergarten folders sent home in July. 6. Scholastic Book Orders are being sent home today. They are due on or before Wednesday, September 3. 7. We made our box tops goal for July/August. Our total was 1,607 box tops. Our free dress day will be on Wednesday, September 3. Students may wear jeans, sweatpants, wind pants, jean skirts, shirts without collars (ex: Cubs shirts, designed shirts). Shorts MUST still be Dennis Uniform shorts if your child elects to wear shorts on free dress day. 8. Do you know what is in the mystery box? Here are this week’s clues: 1. It has fins. 2. It has a blowhole. 3. It lives in water and eats fish. Thank you to R.J. and family (Payton was sick last Friday and will be the next boy) for this week’s object and clues. Alexis’ object last week was Baby Jaguar.
