August 8, 2008 Dear Parents, Another fun week has come and gone. Next week we will be working on the following topics: READING: Concepts of print, rhymes, verbs, classification skills MATH: Numbers to 10: Recognize, order, count/match sets of objects to numbers RELIGION: We are created in the image of God PHONICS/LANGUAGE ARTS: Letters Gg, Hh and activities SOCIAL STUDIES: Cooperation and Respect IMPORTANT NEWS AND INFORMATION: 1. We will attend Mass on Friday, August 15. No shorts or jeans please. You have done a fantastic job with this thus far! 2. School will dismiss at 2:00 on Monday, August 11 for a faculty meeting. Aftercare will be available. 3. Our annual Race For Education kick-off will be on Tuesday, August 12. Please watch for label sheets to come home next week. There will be special prizes and incentives for returning labels by the due date of August 25. Please help fill out the label sheets for your child. Our class earns special prizes with 100% participation, in addition to the prizes and incentives I offer for the class. Thank you very much!!!! ***Students can wear their race day shirts from last year with uniform short or jeans (without a jean coupon). 4. Scholastic book orders were sent home today. These book orders offer great reading material for children at lower costs. You are not obligated to purchase books. They are due on or before Wednesday, August 13. Please make checks payable to Scholastic Books. 5. Our box tops total is 1,060 box tops. The school goal is 1,600 box tops by August 29. Thank you to Torin, Gracie, Fiona, Alexis, and Ellie for box tops this week. 6. In the thank-you area: Treasure box supplies: Torin, Bradyn Class materials: Torin Letter Factory DVD: Alex Chief Chef: Mrs. Lewis (she helped with our first cooking project with the letter Ee – Elephant Ears) I appreciate your generosity and sharing with the class. 7. Mrs. Dunavan has requested each child have a sketchpad to use during art class. The students have art on Tuesdays. Please send a sketchpad to school with your child’s name on it by Tuesday. Thank you. 8. We are still missing stamps from several students. If you have not already done so, please send in 8 first-class stamps next week. 9. Do you know what is in the mystery box? Here are this week’s clues: 1. You use it to sing. 2. It’s a stick with a ball on top. 3. You use it at concerts. Thank you to Jada and family for this week’s object and clues.
