I would like you to know that you
are the first and best teacher of your child. I am here to help your
child learn. I want this to be a rewarding and exciting school year.
To help eliminate any misunderstandings, this is going to give you a brief
explanation of some important topics for Third Grade students and the projects,
events, and procedures which will take place throughout the school year.
Additional information and reminders will be given to you. If you ever have
ANY questions, please feel free to contact me. You are always welcome to
visit our classroom too! Assignment Books I am writing down the assignments with your child at the end of the day. They are responsible for getting their assignments ready to go home. I will not be able to check each student's bag to make sure they have all of their homework. If the work is not finished in class, then it is homework. You are to sign/initial by each subject to show that you have checked to see the assignments are completed. Then, your student will bring their homework to my desk in the morning to show me they have finished their work and have your signature. They will then receive a number. I will do this each day. Please check their assignment books every night!!! This is important in getting them ready for Fourth Grade and becoming responsible. Discipline Card Plan Each student has four different colored cards on their desk. They have agreed to follow twelve classroom rules. Each child knows these rules and we review them frequently. Green Card - First Warning Blue Card - Second Warning Orange Card - No Recess Pink Card - Call Home If they break any rule, then they will get a card pulled. They will be able to get the card back, if they show me better behavior. I will stress to the students that they make their own choices. They can make a good or bad choice. If it is a bad choice, then a card will be taken away. Good choices will often receive praise. Please encourage them to make good choices at home! Handwriting I will give out a D'Nealian Cursive Alphabet sheet at our Open House NIght. Please encourage your student to practice at home. We will be working on it at school, but need your help. I will expect all papers in cursive Second Quarter. Spelling Friday - They will receive their Spelling words for the upcoming week. Monday - They will write the words three times and we will do 2 workbook pages in class. Tuesday - They will write definitions for the words and we will do 2 more workbook pages in class. Wednesday - They will put the Spelling words into complete sentences and we will work on rhyming with our spelling words. Thursday - They will take a Pre-Test. Friday - They will take the Final Test Dictionary Please encourage your student to look up words at home. I know you may be tempted to just tell them how to spell it, but looking it up will help the word stay in their head better. This is a skill I plan for them to master in Third Grade. They should be able to look up words quickly to expand their spelling and vocab skills. Home Folders Home folders will go home frequently. Please read through the papers, signing any necessary forms and the paper inside the pocket and return the folder to school the next day. I will have the students put an F on the left side for finished work and a H on the right for homework. Please keep the finished work at home. Tests are to be signed and returned Please look through all of your child's work, both finished and unfinished. Homework - Offer praise, encouragement, and suggestions - if needed - but please do not do the work for them! Your child will be learning responsibility and organization (we will work on these all year). Completing and turning in work on time is one of the ways we learn. It is very important that we have good communication in order to develop the best program and education for your child. Please feel free to call me any time!
