RATIONALE

Holy Family School highly encourages extra-curricular activities for enrichment and to help in the development of a well-rounded Christian individual.  However, school sponsored extra-curricular activities do not supersede academic progress.  Our primary goals are faith and academic development.

ACTIVITIES

Some of the extra-curricular activities available to Holy Family School students outside the regular school day for their social and physical development and enrichment may include:
•     Service Programs
•     Athletics
•     Scholastic Bowl
•     Student Council
•     Spelling Team

BAND FEE

Students participating in the Beginning or Jr. High band programs will be assessed a $40 annual fee at the beginning of the second semester (January) to help offset costs.  If more than one child from one family is participating in band the fee will be $45.

INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS

The Holy Family School Athletic Committee consists of the parents of students participating in interschool sports.  All athletic events are under the direction of this committee.  It operates under a constitution approved by the Holy Family School Commission on Education.
Parents must see that their children who participate in interschool sports have a physical examination signed by a physician and placed on file in school by the following dates:

        Cross Country        August 1
          Girls Basketball:    August 1
          Cheerleading:        August 1
          Boys Baseball:    August 1
          Boys Basketball:    October 1
          Girls Volleyball:    December 1
          Track and Field    December 1

If the sports physical report is not on file by these dates, the student may not participate in any practices or games until the physical exam report is completed and on file in the school office.  Parents must also sign a statement releasing the school from any responsibility for injuries before the student is allowed to participate in any practice or games.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ELIGIBILITY

Students receiving failing grades or who have exhibited unsatisfactory conduct will be suspended from participation in sports activities.
Expectations to be met by all students participating in any sport or related cheerleading activity at Holy Family School:
    1. The student is academically performing in each subject area according to that individual’s ability;
    2. The student has a positive attitude and shows personal responsibility; the student cooperates with and obeys all teacher directives, which includes classroom order, daily work, and general effort.
If the participating student cannot comply with the above expectations, the Principal may require that the student not participate in the current sport for an appropriate length of time.  Repeated correction will result in non-participation in sports for the academic year.  The Principal will communicate any decision in this regard with the student, teachers, coaches, and parents.
In an effort to better quantify each student’s performance, weekly grade checks and eligibility sheets will be maintained by the school.  Any student participating in any extracurricular event will be ineligible for one week if he/she is receiving a failing grade in any subject (noted by the letter "I").  A letter grade of "D" will place the student on academic probation (noted by the letter "P").
The teachers will compile their class lists each Friday.  The ineligibility lists (Academic Watch List) will be compiled each Monday and posted in the school office by the end of school on Monday.  Each Monday grade summaries (generated by the rvsgradebook) will be sent home with EVERY student in grades four through eight.  Students that exhibit a "D" or an "F" grade in any subject needs to return a parentally signed grade sheet to the office by Tuesday morning.  Eligibility/ineligibility will run Monday to Monday.
At the end of each quarter, an academic ineligibility list will be made from that quarter’s report cards.  Students in grades 4-8 failing any subject during that nine-week period, will be ineligible for two weeks from the ending date of the quarter in question.
