ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES
(last update: 7/8/08)

ABSENCES
Written excuses are required for absences.  Students may not be excused from school for a doctor’s appointment or for any other reason without a written note from the parent submitted to the Principal.
On the day a student must be absent the parents need to:
    1.    Call or e-mail the school office (431-5108) and notify school officials as to the reason for the absence.  The office personnel will notify the proper classroom teachers and an assignment sheet will be written.
    2. Make arrangements to pick-up the assignment sheet or have it taken home by a sibling or neighbor student.  Please note that this step is particularly important over a weekend.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE
An absence over 1-1/2 hours due to a doctor’s appointment will be recorded as 1/2 day absence.
Perfect attendance will be awarded for no absences and no tardies.
Students are responsible for work missed during an absence.  Make-up work should be made-up in the same number of days that the student was absent.  For example, if the student missed one day then he/she would have one day to turn-in the missed assignments.

ABSENCE OR DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL
If parents or guardians take their child out of school for any length of time, they are responsible for teaching the material the child(ren) will miss.
Students may not leave the school grounds unless a written note from parent/guardian is presented to the Principal.
No student may be dismissed from school for a family emergency unless the student is picked up by a parent or legal guardian or person authorized by them and with full knowledge and consent of the Principal.
Parents are asked to schedule medical and dental appointments for non-school hours whenever possible.  All parental requests for an early dismissal need to be in writing and must be shown to the homeroom teacher and any other teacher involved at the time in question.
Any time a student must leave school grounds, s/he must sign-out in the office.

EMERGENCY DISMISSALS
School cancellation can occur during severe weather conditions.  Closings generally comply with the status of District 118 schools on the given day and are reported by 7:00 a.m. over radio stations WDAN and WITY.  Television stations, WCIA and WICD, will also be notified.

TARDINESS
Regular and punctual attendance is extremely important to the continuity of the learning process.  A student’s tardiness to school causes disruption.  Not only does the tardy student miss important instruction, but the entered classroom is also disturbed.

The following rules are designed to encourage the optimum learning environment.
    1. Any student entering school after the 8:30 a.m. bell must go directly to the office for an admit pass to class.
    2. Regular and continual tardiness will result in the following:
                a. A letter will be sent to the parents notifying them of the problems tardiness can cause.
                b. If the tardiness persists with no reasonable explanation (in the opinion of the principal), the student(s) will serve a detention (3:30-4:00) after their fifth tardy incident.
