ADMISSION TO HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL
(last update: 7/10/07)

ADMISSION OF STUDENTS
The basic mission of Holy Family School is to provide a Catholic education for the students of the parish; therefore, preference is given to Catholic students.  Non-parishioners or non-Catholics may be admitted when space is available.  These students also attend religion classes and fulfill assignments in these classes.
Full cooperation with school policies by both parents and students is necessary for initial and continued enrollment.
New students are admitted according to the following:

ADMISSION AGE
Students admitted to kindergarten must have attained five years of age before September 1, the year of their admission.
To be admitted to the first grade, the student should have attended an academically acceptable public or private school kindergarten, and be six years before September 1.
The entrance age for preschoolers is three years before September 1.

ADMISSION ORDER
1.  Currently enrolled students will have the first option on holding a spot for the next school year if registered (paid registration) by May 15th of current year.
2.  Active parishioners of Holy Family (see next item for definition)
3.  Active parishioners of other parishes.
4.  Non-Active Catholic Parishioners
5.  Non-Catholics with siblings attending HFS.
6.  Other non-Catholics.

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION AS HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS
1.)  Fulfilling each Sunday’s Mass obligation by attending and continuing active religious training in the home.
2.)  Regular use of Church Support Envelopes to the best of each family’s ability (this serves to validate      fulfillment of number one).
3.)  Active participation in school activities and cooperation with school administration.

ENROLLMENT OF TRANSFER STUDENTS
Transfer students are interviewed by the principal on an individual basis before an entry decision is made.  There must be proof that the student requesting to transfer is in "good standing" at the school presently attending (transferring from).  The student’s cumulative records are requested from the last school attended.
A student who transfers to Holy Family School will be given a probation period of up to six weeks in his/her current grade.  During this time the student’s work will be evaluated for proper grade placement.  Any change in placement will take place after a conference with parents, teachers, and Principal.
Holy Family School will strive to fully educate every child.  If it is determined that the school cannot fully service the needs of a particular student, then a conference with the student, parents, teacher, and principal will be held to determine the proper course of action.

INCLUSION OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
All elementary schools of the Catholic Diocese of Peoria shall admit students with special needs whenever possible.
Any student identified as a special needs student has, by law, a specific Individualized Education Plan (IEP).  Any HFS student, who is thus qualified, will receive the noted accommodations, consulting, monitoring and/or other cooperative services as is noted in the IEP from the home school district (local educational agency LEA).  Holy Family School will also facilitate in-class instructional accommodations per the IEP as much as possible while instructing the specific child. HFS staff will participate in the multidisciplinary staffing conference to gain information as well as ascertain the level of services needed.
Each school shall have the responsibility to annually provide a minimum of (1) in-service program for the teachers of the school on the subject of the inclusion of students with special needs into the regular classroom.  (D-105, 1/03)
