Re:  Accelerated Reader

Dear Parents,

      In order to further enhance our use of the Accelerated Reader program, as well as, address some of your concerns; we are offering parents the choice between two options - Accelerated or Average again this year.

    Option One - Accelerated -  will be the Accelerated Reader program set up as it was during the first quarter of last school year.  Student goals will be set according to how they tested on the Star Reading Assessment.  Percentages will be posted in the gradebook to coordinate with the assigned due dates. The student’s success will be reflected on the RVS gradebook and report cards under Accelerated Reader.  Grades will be the same A, B, C, D, F determined by the school’s grading scale.  This is the school’s recommendation for your child as it maximizes the child’s reading potential.

    Option Two - Average - will be where the child reads and passes (at least with a score of 85%) four books for the quarter within their ZPD range.  There will also be due dates assigned for when these tests need to be taken.  This option will be reflected on the RVS gradebook and report cards under READ-UP.  Grades of P for Pass and F for Fail will be given.

    More information on these programs will be sent home during the first week of school.
